Weather in Cannes
Formally known as the French Riviera, the Côte d'Azur has been attracting visitors from all over the world for over 100 years.
This is mainly due to its favourable climate and geography: 300 sunny days, an average daily temperature of 16°C, and short but periodical rain-showers. Thanks to the Esterel massif, the Côte d'Azur is protected from the mistral wind, which can be problematic in the neighbouring region of Provence.
Surprisingly, in the 19th Century, winter was the main tourist season in this region. The aristocracy of Europe would flock to the Côte d'Azur from November to May, drawn by clement temperatures.
Today, too, it is very pleasant to relax on a sunny café terrace, whilst skiers are active on the surrounding snowy slopes!
However, although the mild, sunny winters still attract visitors, most tourists nowadays undoubtedly come in the summer, drawn by the sun and the sea..
